Ishara was separated from her parents since she was little. Ever since Ishara had lived with her grandmother. Ishara’s grandmother was a very kind old lady. She would bring food to feed the many animals in the forest every day. Under her grandmother’s influence, Ishara learned to also be kind to animals too. Gradually, visiting and feeding the animals in the forest became a daily chore of Ishara. Ishara really enjoyed the animal’s company.

This day, Ishara woke up earlier than usual. She decided to go to the forest a bit earlier with grandma. Ishara woke grandma up gently and conveyed her wishes. Grandma grumbled a little bit, she was not used to being woken up this early. However, upon seeing her granddaughter’s innocent face, she held back her temper. The duo quickly prepared several of the animal’s favorite food and happily pranced towards the forest.

The animals quickly converged onto Ishara and her grandmother, the scent of Ishara’s cooking was too enticing. Ishara laid out a picnic mat on the beautiful grass and carefully placed the food onto the mat for the animals to eat.

Suddenly a yell of intense pain sounded from afar, Ishara quickly ran in the direction of crying. Ishara found a young juvenile elephant trapped by a trapper laid out by a hunter. With immense sympathy, she pulled apart the teeth of the trapper from the elephant’s leg. Ishara also ran back to the animal’s picnic and brought back some food to feed the elephant, but the elephant did not eat. It seemed that the elephant was too injured to eat.

Ishara suddenly recalled a tale in her village, that a doll made with the leaves from the willow trees can help cure animals. Hence, she quickly pulled leaves from a nearby willow tree and tied the leaves into a doll-shaped figure. Then she gave the doll to the elephant. Miraculously, the elephant was cured a few days later.

Ishara and the elephant became friends ever since. This day, it appeared that it was going to rain, so Ishara built a temporary shed with tree branches to keep them both dry. Under the shed, the elephant used her trunk to nudge Ishara as a gesture of thankfulness. Ishara appreciated the gesture and started confiding to the elephant how much she missed her parents. Ishara mentioned to the elephant that she would give anything to meet her parents once. Moved by Ishara’s story, the elephant decided to accompany Ishara in her search for her parents. With grandma’s blessing and approval, Ishara and the elephant started the journey of searching for her parents…
