It was spring. The sun shone brightly on the petals of late spring’s flowers, and birds chattered with each other overhead. There was a group of children who were shooting at the birds with slingshots. Seeing this, a little girl named Bomi scolded them and shooed them away. “That’s cruel! Never harm living creatures for sport.”
After they left, Bomi saw a bird lying on the ground, its exquisite plumage glinting in the sun. She looked closer and saw that the bird was badly injured by the rocks. Gently, she scooped up the bird and brought it home to bandage it. As Bomi cared for her little friend over time, the bird eventually recovered.
The day came when the bird brought itself upright, preened its feathers, and looked meaningfully at Bomi. With a bittersweet smile, Bomi set it free. The flowers bloomed, wilted, and began to grow again as the seasons passed by.
One fine spring morning, a bird placed a flower and a seed on Bomi’s windowsill. Looking closer, she saw that it was the same bird she had helped a year before. Admiring the lovely flowers, she gave thanks to the bird. Throughout that spring, the bird sent different flowers and seeds every day, and Bomi planted the seeds around her house.
Year after year, the bird kept sending her flowers and seeds. In time, the house was surrounded by a beautiful flower garden.
