8" Ten Ping (HA0003A)

Ever since our mother left us to pursue a working career in Hong Kong, my life hasn’t been the same.

I felt burdened with upset, especially when I passed by my neighbors and saw my friends together with their parents.

Whenever my siblings would ask me about our mother, I would try my best to reassure them that she would be coming back soon. Yet inside me, I felt empty and hopeless.

During the school summer holidays, all alone and despaired, I found myself dragging my exhausted body aimlessly through the streets of Shanghai.

One day, when I passed the Wing On Department Store on Nanjing road, something in the display window caught my eyes. Inside the showcase sat a lonely polished porcelain doll.

The doll had such a calm and soothing facial expression on her. It is as if she was trying to talk to me and comfort me. I could hear her saying: “Ten Ping, be brave and strong, for yourself and for everyone around you. I will always be here to help.”
From that day onwards, I would visit that same doll, whenever possible, just to talk to her. Whenever I felt unhappy, a short visit to the department store display window would brighten my day up. I named the doll: Miu Miu.

Soon the Summer Vacation was over and I was transferred to attend my new school.
I was particularly nervous. “Would I find any friends? Are the teachers mean? I wish mother was here so I could ask her…”

Nervous and uncertain, and I decided to see Miu Miu again for guidance. As usual, Miu Miu soothed my heart and gave me the courage to go on.

Ever since then, Miu Miu became my best friend.
